Cold, snowy, and indoorsy.

First big snow of the year. It's probably close to negative infinity outside. Eight fresh inches of snow. I'm in between terms at Luther. Perfect day to stay inside and play radio. I'm still officially three states away from having CW WAS confirmed - AK, ID, and WI. I did work ID yesterday, but I'm not sure if the op uses LOTW or not. So we might just need two, or possibly still three.

Worked a station on IL tonight with my cloud-warming loop. Excellent sigs both ways. I need to get a highter 80m antenna up in the air. Perhaps when the outside warms back up to above instant-frostbite I'll toy with putting something up.

Also taking a bit of a break from the assorted social media sites. FB put me on probation for a month over a joke from two months ago, the day after they removed a post from three years ago about Epstein hanging himself. When the moderators are automated and appeals are just as people-less, there's not much point in getting worked up. Just go elsewhere and let the site wither away and die, like so many other famous websites before it. Granted, they've enmeshed themselves into everyone's lives like most other sites didn't, but they aren't a guaranteed thing. I've been around long enough to see sites more famous than that one die off, and eventually someone will come along and replace it.

Been enjoying text-mode web browsing on my Linux CLI. Found a nice listing of text-only news websites. They lack the ads and attention-grabbing headlines, as if they know their consumer can't be swayed by such things. Straight and to-the-point news. Very nice.

Also been playing around with IRC like the olden days. I logged in a bit and instantly see dick jokes and incest humor. Just like I remembered.

Mutt is a great email client - quick deletion of spam and junk, easy threading of messages, and best of all, no pictures. The older I get, the less that I'm enamored with photos online. They're great when I actually want to see them, but don't shove them in my face.

I suppose that's enough rambling for one day. Happy New Year and whatnot. dit-dit
