Nice Little Event Run Tonight

Today, along with the past few preceding it, was a day. I won't detail why, but if you watch the news and aren't under a rock, you'll have a general idea of the stressors. (If you're reading this years from now, the Coronavirus).

I'm in the midst of reflooring our kitchen and had planned on working toward that project tonight. However I've apparently developed an arthritic hip which doesn't like cold, wet days like today, so I was all but chair-bound and loaded up on muscle relaxers.

I flipped on the CW skimmers and my K2, and noticed my good friend Lloyd k3ese was on 40m. I gave him a quick call on my 1930's-vintage bug and... quickly realized that I can't use a bug for squat when I'm loaded up on muscle relaxers. I switched to using the "dah paddle" as a sideways straight key and mad do.

Ah, but then the harmonics came into play. Not of the RF kind, but the DNA kind. Despite repeated attempts to shoo them away so I could copy the 5w signal from Maryland, they kept pestering away. As if things couldn't get more distracting the outside cat got into the house and all sorts of ruckus ensued. Lloyd, ever the patient should-be-an-official-A1-operator, was surely wondering what was going on. Unable to hear a thing between the cat, kids, and a tuner-upper, I signed via Facebook Messenger and went off to do other things.

I'm glad I came back to the radio, as I fell into operating the NAQCC monthly sprint. I had no idea it was tonight, and I admittedly had to look up if I was a member. (That's the problem when you join so many radio clubs and you can't remember which ones you do or don't have a number for.) I was surprised to find I did and went on to make a decent litte run in the last hour. Albeit with the BY-1 paddles, not the bug.
