Wanted: “Special Deputies” in Hennepin County

The Hennepin County Sheriff’s Office is looking for a few good men and women.

They’re needed to volunteer as “special deputies” and perform a variety of different duties for the sheriff’s office.

They can serve with the Water Patrol Unit, Mounted Patrol, the Emergency Squad Unit, or with the Mobile Amateur Radio Corps.

Mobile Amateur Radio Corps? Sounds like a whacker nerd’s wet dream.

“We learn great life skills we can use in our whole life,” said Kelly Sullivan a ten-year volunteer with the Emergency Squad.

Volunteers work at least twice a month and undergo hundreds of hours of training.

Fitness exams? That rules out 99% of ham radio operators to begin with. Before you flame me, have you LOOKED AROUND at the hamfest? Unless one of the requirements of the exam is a 0-60 of ten minutes on a Rascal, I think we’re all fubard.
