Springtime Flooding? That’s a New Phenomenon to Iowa…

Several Iowa counties - Appanoose, Davis, Lucas, Mahaska, Marion, Monroe, Wapello and Warren - have declared their farm-to-market road systems disasters in communications with the Iowa Division of Homeland Security.

Farm-to-market road system. There’s a new term for “gravel roads” I haven’t heard yet. This is what happens when government is run as a business, I suppose.

“Thats the first step toward a disaster declaration that could lead to some federal financial help,” said Dave Miller, administrator of the Division of Homeland Security. Miller said that at present, federal disaster aid would be unlikely because there had not yet been what he called a “definining” event such as a storm or tornado that cause the problem.

“But we know there are serious road problems, particularly in southern Iowa, Miller said.

Here’s a question - How often does it flood in the Springtime in Iowa? The answer is every year. Here’s the next question - why doesn’t the state budget for such events? I suppose it’s better to just hope it doesn’t happen. Then when it does, run to the feds for help like a college kid runs to mommy and daddy when they can’t pay the credit card bill.

If the state of Iowa can’t plan accordingly for basic events such as this, rather than concern itself with political ploys like “increasing school funding” or “comprehensive healthcare reform” rather than covering the basic costs of government, then we need to scrap it all.

This is what really bugs me about what all you liberals (and liberals disguised as republicans cough McCain) keep whining about. “We need to pay for health care. We need to pay for better schools. We need to pay for…” Blah, blah, blah. How about paying for the basic costs of government, rather than cooking up a bunch of stuff that the government shouldn’t be concerned with in the first place?

Our roads are impassible. That doesn’t matter, because we need to worry about nationalizing the healthcare system. It’s also more important that teachers make twice what the average worker makes, despite the fact that the majority of them are a bunch of idiots that would be lost without a teacher’s edition. It’s even more important to waste time trying to ban smoking in public. (A farmer can’t even have a smoke in his tractor while he stares at his swamped cornfield.) What a crock.

Then to have the complete idiocy to call it the “farm-to-market road system” in some stupid egg-headed ploy to make it seem more important. IT’S A FLIPPIN’ GRAVEL ROAD! IT’S NOT A “FARM-TO-MARKET ROAD SYSTEM!” What the hell do I know though.. I’m just some hick, not a well-educated politician with the knowledge and intelligence to masterfully manage our government to the point of being so full of itself that it doesn’t need to care about natural disaster planning or basic functionality; instead all it needs to worry about is stuff that’s bankrupting our nation, destroying America, and turning us all into a bunch of socialist scum! (whew)

If you damned liberals would quit screwing around with our government, we wouldn’t have this problem. You’ve taken American government from something great and wonderful to a screwed up mess that’s full of stuff that we “just had to do” because it makes YOU feel good.

Are you morons happy now? Our roads are mud and we can’t pay for it because of all the worthless shit you’ve legislated. At least I can take solace in the fact that when I catch pneumonia because I can’t afford my heat bill that my hospital stay will be paid for by the incredibly high tax burden you worthless morons have imposed upon me.

All you liberal trash can wander out in the middle of my yard and drown.

I would hope we would give the General Assembly Democrats and Governor Culver a pink slip when they are up for re-election. This is the most inept state government that I have seen in years.
