The captain of Iraq’s victorious football teams has said he will not return to his home country because he fears being killed.
Younis Mahmoud scored the only goal of the game with a header in the 71st-minute to give win the Asia Cup for Iraq.
But afterwards, the 24-year-old said he would not be returning to Iraq as he feared for his life if he went home to celebrate the victory.
“I don’t want the Iraqi people to be angry with me,” he said. “But, if I go back with the team, anybody could kill me or try to hurt me.
“One of my closest friends, they (the authorities) came to arrest him and for one year neither me nor his family knew where he was.
“I want America to go out,” he said. “Today, tomorrow, or the day after tomorrow, but out. I wish the American people didn’t invade Iraq and hopefully it will be over soon.”
Hey, you’re welcome. You’re welcome we freed you from the tyrannical dictator and his sadistic sons who terrorized your country. You’re welcome that you no longer have to fear watching your wife get raped in front of your eyes. You’re welcome that you no longer have to fear seeing your children tortured to death.
I’m sorry you’re caught in the crossfire between us and the Muslim/Persian/Arabic/Misc. people who keep trying to mess with things. I’m sorry that car bombs are being planted all over your country by Iran et. al. A little patience would be nice in this situation. Would you not agree that things are much better now?
Do you honestly wish we hadn’t invaded Iraq? What would have happened if we hadn’t, and you didn’t win your little footie-ball trophy, eh? One of Saddam’s kids would have shot you in the kneecaps (if you’re lucky), that’s what. I suppose that’s MUCH worse than having to temporarily put up with us having to deal with a few bass-ackwards third-century types who don’t appreciate freedom.
Have you considered helping us stop this problem? Have you thought, “gee, those brave Americans are over here sacrificing themselves so that I can live a life that’s free of fear and oppression.” Nope. Instead, you complain when we don’t leave quick enough afterwards. Thanks for the lay babe, now get out of my bed and don’t forget the twenty I left on the nightstand.
There’s two reasons why the “popularity” of the Iraq is so low. The first is due to the liberal Democommies who see any war as an exploitation of the poor, the those-were-the-good-ol-days washed-up Vietnam hippie types, and the I just don’t like seeing our kids die people who just won’t support any war. The second is the Republicans who once supported the war, but now don’t because of whiny morons like this guy. Leave now, and let him remember how great Iraq was before we stepped in.
