What I’m working on…

By jimrob | January 18, 2007

Recently, a thread popped up on the new QRP-L (ebay ebay) asking what the members had built this past year. I kept my mouth shut, as I hadn’t done much of anything. I think my only radio-related constructions were a 2m SSB Squloop and a non-functioning inverted vee system for HF (it’s currently a tangled heap in the corner of the garage).

However, I do plan (repeat - plan) on building some things this coming year. Here’s a list:

1) A packet or TCP/IP digipeater (this should be called a “start building” thing), focused mainly on e-mail distribution.

2) A portable 30m rig. Doesn’t have to be QRP, but I doubt I’ll find a plethora of portable 100w 30m radio plans.

3) An antenna for 160/80/40. I was looking at building a 55′ foot elevated vertical, then I started looking at aluminum prices. WOW. That stuff is expensive. Maybe I’ll stick with stuff made of 14 gauge wire.

4) Assemble my 20/15/10 yagi and stick it on a tower.

5) A tower.

6) A wall for my shack. Right now, the only thing separating it from the rest of the garage is a blue tarp. Two space heaters running non-stop and I’m lucky to hit fifty-two degrees in there.

7) Various site enhancements. Currently, I’m working on using PHP to parse a CSV-output file from my log and then display it on my site. After that is working FB, I will write code to display the QSL card of the worked station, if available. Neat stuff!

That’s about it for now, other than the “normal” stuff. Working on the degree, raising the kid, paying bills… yadda yadda.

[…] cruising my old posts via the “Related Posts:” links, I found this. At first, I thought it was from this year, as its goals are what I’m currently working on. […]
